RACING - Stuart "Rosie" Rose

Stuart "Rosie" Rose

Division & Class: Speedway Modifieds
Engine:            Chevrolet
Transmission: Direct Drive
Crew:            Mez, Willie, Rusty, Farron, Soss
Interests: Motorsports, beer, family and friends
Best race moment:

Winning first race in Wellington and holding the mighty Tama out for the entire race (having never raced there before and first time racing in the pack rather than at the rear of the field)

Embarrassing moment: Running over the bonnet of another car after the checkered flag...

I have always been around speedway; I started out racing bikes in the early 90’s and then moved onto Standard Saloons racing a Ford Capri. I made it to 2NZ in that class.

The next couple of years saw me working in Ozzie and when I came home, I started helping Bunter with his Super Saloon car. In between time I built up and raced the green hilux Ute for the Tarmac Series, racing over several rallies with good success. My first outing saw a 9th overall finish (without pace notes!!), and was always a consistent top ten finisher. Tarmac rallies are only 2 per year and I felt I needed something else, and so a return to Speedway was inevitable.

So after a conversation with Willie about racing a Modified, and a few beers later – a plan was made and our first season went quite well. Dirt is always challenging and the season was a huge learning curve for me, I think we got the hang of it quite quickly and managed to be competitive (if only in spirit) some meetings. We managed to qualify for all the meetings we entered, and decided early on that we needed to travel a bit more to get the experience our new team required.

Stratford is my home track, I am a local Taranaki boy and live and work in this area too. I own Dign4u (started out as SA Rose Contracting) – an earthmoving company providing earthmoving services from house sites, farm development to site and also contract to the oil & gas industries of Taranaki for the past 8 years. Come along as see what we do on the night – our 3 car team looks impressive and Speedway is great family fun.

Soss (from Rosie’s team) writes: Last Season, what-a-buzz!  To be involved from the building of the cars to the National Championship was just awesome. There were no expectations from the drivers; the only rule was to have fun.

Obviously competition does get the better of everyone once you’re into it – hence the drivers putting pressure on themselves to strive for better. For us the crew, we were just happy to be part of such an awesome team and so proud of the presentation of the cars.

Bring on next season!
