DRAG RACING - How To
Junior Dragster caters for kids between the ages of 6 and 16.
Drag racing takes place on a straight track with 2 vehicles racing side by side. The normal track length is ¼ mile – but Junior Dragsters race over a 1/8 mile.
In DYO (dial your own) racing, the object is to predict how many seconds it will take to get your car to the finish line – then you have to try and run as close as possible to that number without going quicker (breaking out). The car that goes over the line first and runs closest to their DYO time wins.
Another factor to the race is your reaction time. This is the amount of time it takes a driver to react to the green starting light on the Christmas Tree (the lighting system on the start line) and start moving the car down the track. If you move too quickly, the lighting system will pick this up from the sensors on the track, and automatically give you a Red Light – a loss for that run.
It is important to get the best reaction time you can – as this can give you an advantage (hole-shot) over your competitor as you move down the track to get over the line first.
